Bulletstorm Was ‘Worth Making’ Though It ‘Didn’t Make Money’ For Epic

Epic Games President Mike Capps spoke with Kotaku about their raunchy shooter, Bulletstorm, that released not too long ago. In a statement he said that the title “didn’t make money for us [Epic].” Within the same breath, however, Capps noted that while the game didn’t sell well, it was still worth making. He also went on to talk about how People Can Fly is more to the studio than a filler for content between the Gears of War titles.

“The next thing we do with People Can Fly will be great,” said Capps. The game had a bit of trouble topping 300,000 copies in its first month, as according to a financial analyst. This was all noted in a keynote presentation offered by Capps entitled “Size Doesn’t Matter: How Epic Brings AAA Attitude to Every Game.” Throughout the presentation, Capps aimed to dispel the rumors/myths that some may have about how Epic’s games are high-quality because of the infinite budgets or unlimited development times that neither of which the company takes pride in. Capps wants to emphasize that it’s company drive that pumps out these AAA titles, and that’s key in making great games.

Personally, I loved Bulletstorm. It was fun, interactive, and straight-to-your-face. As in my review, the only real problem I had was finding others to run with in Anarchy mode, which I later found to be remedied. Bulletstorm easily takes one of my choices for a top favorite of 2011, which not too many other titles fall into. What about you? Did you play Bulletstorm? If so, what did you think?
