We all remember that miserable level in MW2, the one where you walk through an airport randomly mowing down civilians. The level created a lot of negative press for the game as well as Infiniti ward. Honestly I found that level to be a bad idea, it just made players feel guilty and remorseful for playing it and then there was the ending which solidified the “I can’t believe I just did that” feeling.
Thankfully Battlefield 3 has removed any chance of bad press by disabling the ability to shoot civilians.
Battlefield 3 executive producer Patrick Bach was quoted as saying ”…If you put the player In front of a choice where they can do good things or bad things they will choose bad things, go dark side –because people think it’s cool to be naughty, they won’t get caught…”
“In a game where it’s more authentic, when you have a gun in your hand and child in front of you what will happen? Well they player will shoot the child.”
I personally am glad that civilian killing has been removed, I always hated accidentally killing civvies. Although taking that aspect out of the game does remove a bit of the games realism, but hey after all it is a video game and I’m pretty sure no normal soldier can be shot multiple times and keep going. Well there ya have it, in Battlefield 3 you will be disappointed if by some strange psychological issue you enjoy taking out in game neutrals.
