Taking A Look At League of Legends’ ‘Dominion Mode’

Not too long ago, Riot Games announced a brand new mode coming to League of Legends. This new mode, called Dominion, will bring an all-new way to play the game, taking it strides away from its DotA roots, all while keeping it fun and interesting for existing players.

The new Dominion mode takes the DotA-esque gameplay of LoL and mixes it with something that can be compared to Call of Duty’s Domination mode. The game type will send players to a new map called the Crystal Scar, and it’s something that hasn’t been seen yet in the game. Instead of the normal lanes that the current maps have, this new map consists of a central ring with capture points located across it. The aim of the new mode is to capture these points and hold them to gain score, which you can do my standing near them and channeling a spell. This will drain health from the opposing player’s Nexus, and when their Nexus’ health hits zero, it’s game over.

You can see Dominion in action below, and I urge you to take a look. This new mode looks like a lot of fun, and I think LoL players will find it even more challenging than the normal game itself. We’re still awaiting a release date for the new mode, but it will be demoed this year at Gamescom 2011, so keep an eye out.
