Fatal Frame 3DS Spinoff “Spirit Photo” Lets You Actually Use A Camera To Play

If you’ve ever played Fatal Frame, you know just how freaky this horror game can be. If you haven’t, do a quick YouTube search of some Fatal Frame Let’s Plays, and you’ll hear the screams of people trying to play through it. The main mechanic of the game involves taking pictures of ghosts. So how cool would it be if you could actually use a camera to play?

According to the latest issue of Famitsu, the franchise will be getting a spin-off for the 3DS called “Spirit Photo.” The game will take advantage of the 3DS’s camera to allow you to see ghosts in the real world. How great will that be? Sitting on a bench in the park, only to scream out loud as you see a spirit coming at you from out of a tree? People won’t think you’re crazy at all.

Bundled with the game will be an “AR Notebook”, which we unfortunately don’t have a lot of details on. There will also be three different modes of play: the regular story mode, Horror Notebook, and Ghost Camera. Horror Notebook will feature a variety of mini games which are played with the AR Notebook, and Ghost Camera lets you pit your own “spirit picture” against that of other real-world players. The only question is whether we will ever see this, or any other of the franchise here in the states.
