Netflix isn’t exactly a topic that comes up around here, unless we’re talking about streaming to our consoles of choice. However, a recent announcement piqued my interest, as it involves the very thing that we all love so much. Video games. It seems that the movie rental giant has taken an interest in not only providing video, but video games as well.
Recently, Netflix announced that they would be spinning off their DVD division into its own entity, dubbed Qwikster. This is rather amusing, since the division they are spinning off used to be the only thing they offered. The other announcement was that Qwikster would begin offering the ability to check out a PS3, Xbox 360 or Wii title in the same manner that you would get a DVD.
The option to get a game will come with a premium, in the same manner that you pay extra for Blu-ray discs. That also leads me to believe that you won’t be getting games in addition to your movies, but instead of them (when you choose to). We don’t yet have any word on pricing, but we’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available.
