Sony Makes A Bold Move With Online Passes

Say bye bye to the game trading industry!  In recent statements, Sony has announced that they will be requiring owners of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception to input an online pass code to play online multiplayer.  Hey, it may be a one time thing!  Nope.  Sony announced that they will be doing this with every single upcoming online multiplayer game.

“Online Pass will be incorporated into Uncharted 3 and future Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS) games with online functionality,” says Sony.  This new policy rears its head in order to trample the problem of piracy, but will it end up hurting the company and its consumers even more?

Honestly, we all know what their real goal is. No publisher likes knowing that people are buying used copies of games, rather than paying full price for a brand new one. It’s a day that we’ve all seen coming for a while, it’s just sad to see it finally arrive.
