Notch Advises Player To Pirate Minecraft?

Minecraft officially released last year, and since then it’s done an amazing job. Even before its release, tons of players were enjoying the game in its beta format. It’s easily described as a phenomenon, and players everywhere want to get into the game. But what would you do if you can’t afford a copy for yourself? According to the game’s creator, Notch, you’d just pirate it.

On Twitter a fan reached out to Notch, saying, “I really like the game but lack the money to buy it. I though I might at least ask for a free account before piracy.” To this, Notch responded, “Just pirate it. If you still like it when you can afford it in the future, buy it then. Also don’t forget to feel bad. ;)”

Minecraft has sold over four million copies so far, which could be one factor in Notch’s lack of concern for making money on the game. Either way it goes, Notch was letting this player know that, at least for him, pirating the game is okay. I don’t necessarily know if this is good or not, but I hope it doesn’t come back to bite him.
