Wizards of the Coast – A New D&D Is Coming

Wizards of the Coast have been working awfully hard for the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop RPG this past year. It’s not only an exciting time for the game, but it’s a most prosperous time as well. The company isn’t stopping the freight train anytime soon, and they’ve got some news for us all: they are currently developing the next iteration of the game, and they want the fans to help.

The company wants to make sure that D&D enters its next 40 years as a “Vibrant, growing, and exciting game.” They way they can accomplish this is to listen to the needs of the D&D community, and they’ve done just that. In early 2011 Wizards released a series of weekly articles that gave players a voice in what they were creating. All of the comments and feedback have been listened to, and it won’t stop there.

With the entrance of the new year, Wizards plans to take this process a step further. This year they will be conducting ongoing playtests with the community in efforts to gain even more feedback on the new iteration of the game as its being developed. Using this feedback the company can create a new version of D&D that’s more fun and exciting than ever before. By inviting players in the community to help provide criticism and feedback for the game Wizards can create a set of rules that will all together incorporate the wants and desires of gamers from all around the world.

At the D&D Experience convention taking place later this month, Wizards will conduct a special playtest of ideas that are currently in development. This event will be making its way to GenCon in 2013, up in Indianapolis, Indiana. At the beginning of the spring, open playtests will start and it will be governed through the official Wizards of the Coast website. On the site a list of rules, classes, monsters, and other materials for players to study and provide feedback on. If you’re wanting to be a part of the open playtest, you can sign up here. This is going to be yet another exciting year for Dungeons & Dragons, and it’s amazing that the community can have such a large role in the game’s success.
