Metal Gear Online, the multiplayer addition for Metal Gear Solid 4 on the PS3, will be going offline when summer hits this year. MGO was the multiplayer portion of the game, where players could compete against each other in tactical action across the net. It wasn’t extremely popular, but it did have a dedicated fan base.
The online shop for the service will end on March 21st. When April rolls around, no more characters can be made. Finally by June 21st the entire service will shut down for good. No more crawling around online in boxes trying to fool other players.
While I can somewhat understand the cease of operations for MGO, it makes me wonder what Konami is aiming toward with the future. With Metal Gear Solid: Rising coming soon, so far we’ve not heard of anything else arriving to further the storyline any longer. Either way, whether it was for financial reasons or just plain ending the service, we’ll be sad to see MGO go. Play while you can soldiers.
