Pokémon Company Won’t Tolerate Scammers, Pulls iOS Game

The Pokémon Company, owners of the popular Pokémon IP, issued a warning to anyone who wants to illegally make a profit off of their products. They will be prepared to take legal action against any and all individuals who counterfeit their goods.

The Pokémon Company told the website Develop on the 21st “(w)e continue to combat the unauthorized release of games, applications and merchandise that trick our fans into purchasing something that does not meet our quality standards.” This statement comes after an incident in which a rogue developer from the “House of Anime” released a fake version of “Pokémon Yellow” onto Apple’s App Store over the weekend. The app has since been pulled from the App Store.

The people who released the app reportedly made a few thousand dollars over the weekend during the time it was available. I bet, though, that in the end that money won’t be nearly enough to cover all the court costs they will face if/when they’re found out.
