Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition Will Have Cross-Platform Multiplayer

Despite it being a game that’s been out for more than a decade, I’m really looking forward to Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition. I’m not sure that we could get a true sequel to these games that would keep the same play style. So I’m perfectly happy replaying the originals with brand new graphics. And I’m even happier knowing that I can play it on my PC, Mac or iPad. That’s right, they have officially announced a native OSX version of the upcoming game.

What’s really exciting is that all three platforms will play nice with each other. Regardless of which version of the game your friends have, you will all be able to play together. So few games are cross-compatible between Mac and PC, and yet Overhaul Games has gone the extra mile and made them both talk with the iPad as well. Makes you wonder why we don’t see more of this.

Interestingly enough, despite the cross-compatibility discussed above, the company has no intention of making the games available on any consoles. I can’t really imagine trying to play Baldur’s Gate with a 360 controller, so it does seem to make sense.
