EA To Not Shut Down Fan-Made Wing Commander Game

I’ll admit, I’ve not exactly been a Wing Commander fan growing up. In fact, up until a few years ago, I haven’t even really heard of it, not until I watched some reviews as done by one Noah Antwiler on his site The Spoony Experiment. But for those of you people who are fans, I have some good news for you. A fan-made Wing Commander game, called Wing Commander Saga: Darkest Dawn, has been given EA’s blessing of sorts to be released.

That’s not to say that EA is endorsing the product. Rather, the creators of the game had to go ahead and clarify that while EA isn’t endorsing the game, they aren’t going to sic their lawyers on them either.

I suppose it helps that the game is going to be free, but still, it’s nice to see that EA is using some restraint in this matter. Too often, we hear about game companies suing a group for some sort of trademark infringement, when all the creators are trying to do is make a new experience for people in a franchise that hasn’t had a proper game since 1996. If you’re a fan of space sims, check it out here!
