Crashed Games Can Be Recovered In Starcraft II’s Next Expansion

You’re going hard, fingers wrought with sweat. You squint, clicking incessantly around in a circle to keep your speed up. Your research is just about to finish, when all of a sudden you’re taken back to a waiting screen, watching as a message pops up to let you know the game has been disconnected. Or even worse, you see your desktop as the entire game of Starcraft II you’ve been playing crashes. When you’re playing competitively, this means certain life or death.

Players everywhere are crying out in pain at the loss of ranked games due to game crashes and disconnects. Right now the only way to press on afterwards is to start a new game from scratch, which can lead to a totally different outcome than what was appearing in the first place. Some good news has come by way of Blizzard however, and when Heart of the Swarm releases you’ll be able to jump right back into these games to finish them the right way.

Blizzard posted on their blog:

We know how important eSports is for the StarCraft II community, and it’s important to us too. For some time now we have been discussing ways to improve StarCraft II to ensure that tournaments both large and small run as smoothly as possible. While we are discussing many different improvements, we’ve heard your feedback and are creating a way that games can be continued if they are ended prematurely during an eSports event. We have been investigating solutions to this issue for some time, but we expect to offer the ability to resume play from a replay at or around the launch of Heart of the Swarm.

This could help prevent situations in which a player obviously had the battle won, and a crash ended up with the upper hand being one-sided against his favor. After all, this has happened before. With the upcoming expansion this issue will hopefully can be remedied for the short term, making players much more content with playing once more on the network. Also promised with Heart of the Swarm is multi-language support, a new clan system, unranked matchmaking, multiplayer replay viewing, and region-free play when the expansion releases. This will hopefully keep eSports rolling in motion.
