Remember the FCC filing for a “Super Slim” PS3 that we showed you earlier this month? Well now we’re hearing more rumors about this upcoming 4000-series console. First, it seemed that the console was originally slated to be announced at Gamescom next month. According to the rumor, Sony has since decided not to reveal it, due to stock levels of current models being too high.
What’s even more interesting is that the rumor also points to a flash storage-based model that would compete directly with Microsoft’s 4GB Xbox 360. Of course, as always, Sony would be on-upping their competitor, as the flash-based model would have 16GB of internal storage. Since there are supposed to be other models with higher capacities, we can only imagine that you could add a hard drive at a later time.
The last tidbit may prove to be the most interesting of all. According to VG247’s source, the 16GB PS3 could retail for as low as £99. No USD equivalent was mentioned, but to give you an idea, the 4GB Xbox 360 retails for around £139. If my math is right, that would potentially mean a sub $150 console. We’ll just have to wait and see if the rumors come true or not.
