EA Talks Kingdoms of Amalur 2, ‘Would Love’ To Publish It

In the most recent issue of Game Informer, EA commented on the recent loss of 38 Studios. In case you hadn’t heard, the developer underwent a huge fiasco that caused them to shut their doors for good. They lost employees and ended up owing the state of Rhode Island a hefty sum due to unpaid loans and expenses.

38 Studios is responsible for the awesome Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning RPG that released for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 some time ago. With the recent shutdown of the company it looked as if the future wouldn’t be bright for any sequel to the game. In EA’s comment about the whole situation, the company claims it “would love” to publish Kingdoms of Amalur 2.

Frank Gibeau talked a bit about the unfortunate series of events that plagued both the game and its developer. “I think it’s unfortunate how everything worked out. At the end of the day, we saw a lot of creativity and vision in the team that Curt [Schilling] put together. We thought the game was terrific. It reviewed well. We built a good business there and hope there’s a sequel to it someday. We’d love to be a partner for that.”

When Kingdoms of Amalur released it landed decent reviews, and there were a mixed bunch. I personally enjoyed the game, and it was a nice vibrant, vivid change to the dark, mundane RPGs we’ve seen lately. There’s no way of telling if the game will ever see a sequel, but if it ever does I’ll be on board.
