The Total War series of games have been known for their giant battles and vast amount of management of nations, and Rome is perhaps one of the best games of the series. And while there have been numerous sequels to the other Total War franchises, including Medieval II and Shogun 2, we’ve seen nothing of Rome for nearly 8 years. Well, it looks like that’s about to end.
In an interview with Joystiq, Creative Assembly studio communications manager Al Bickham showed them a brief demo for Total War: Rome 2, set during the siege of Carthage. In this game, you’re not supposed to follow what happens in real life, but rather you’re supposed to conquer the globe as you want. While there wasn’t a whole lot said about how you can conquer the globe as you want, my guess is that like in past Total War games you’ll be able to either play the politics game a bit more if you want to get people come around without bloodshed, or if that doesn’t work you can just build a massive army up and crush everyone who opposes you.
At this point, the game isn’t anywhere near completed. However, there are a few features for the game already being shown, including the seamless transition of sea and land battles, where your men will disembark from their giant boats and go about assembling siege towers in order to take over Carthage. I have to admit, I’m getting kind of excited about this game! The game should come out sometime in 2013.
At the bottom we have a live action trailer for the game as provided from IGN. I gotta admit, by looking at it I can see quite a bit of Spartacus in the trailer!
