More Tabletop Pleasure – ISU Con 2012

It’s not even been a week since we’ve returned from Gen Con, the best four days in gaming, and the con high is starting to wear thin. There’s always a bittersweet feeling that follows a con, where you’re coming down off of the happiness and sheer excitement of being there. Sometimes it’s a fleeting feeling, other times it’s hard to deal with. If you’re one of those people who is looking for a way to wean yourself off slowly, I’ve some great news!

Indiana State University up in Terre Haute, Indiana puts on their own tabletop convention each year. Aptly named ISU Con, it’s a convention that supports open tabletop gaming, game demos, and more. Players can enjoy the festivities free of charge, and have the opportunity to learn new games as well as meet new gamers in the area. Prizes and food will be available for free as well, while supplies last. The Mind’s Eye Society LARP will be in attendance, as will the ISU Anime group. They’re both big supporters of the con, and they’ll be hosting their own events there. There will be a cosplay cafe where the food and drink will be served, and there will be Warhammer 40k, Geist, and Vampire games running throughout the weekend.

There will be plenty of tabletop activities set up, such as RPG demos, tournaments, and casual gaming for players to take part in. Are you looking to try out a new game? How about finally getting into a session of Dungeons & Dragons? Is there a game you’re looking to get more players into? If you’ve answered yes to any of those questions then ISU Con would be a great event for you.

There will be plenty of GMs at the con who will be offering up new games to try, and that’s something that staff are pressing. The whole aim of the con, while open gaming is suggested, is to get attendees to sign up and play games that have been set up for the con. The main goal is to introduce players to new games and provide demos for them. Finally, the con will sponsor a raffle for charity auction. When you arrive you’ll get a ticket, and for each game you play you’ll get another. It’s all gaming for a good cause.

ISU Con is a nice addition to the Gen Con event that just passed, and they’ve even helped by sponsoring the con. It will take place on August 31st – September 1st at Indiana State University. If you’re looking for some casual play on a larger scale, or wanting to get a quick RPG session going, it’s definitely worth checking out. Don’t be shy, though, and make sure if you go to sign up for some games while there! If you are interested in the event and need more information, check out the ISU Con Facebook Page.
