Nintendo Power To Cease Publication [Rumor]

When it came to shilling their own products back in the late 80’s and 90’s , before the internet rose to prominence, nobody did it better than Nintendo. Once a month they would release a magazine that you could have delivered straight to your house that would let you know of the latest and greatest games to come to Nintendo’s systems. Truly, it was a modern marvel.

But like all good things, Nintendo Power must come to an end. Ars Technica revealed yesterday that Nintendo Power will no longer be published here in the near future. According to the website, Nintendo was “uninterested” in renewing their contract with publisher Future Publishing, and so it is that one of the longest-running gaming magazines will no longer be available for sale.

And you know, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The magazine has had a strong 24 year run, and when you consider how often the gaming world changes from day-to-day, a magazine is quite frankly outdated. Nintendo must have seen the writing on the wall a long time ago, and now that they don’t need to focus any resources on a magazine anymore, they now have that much more money to work on different projects. And who knows, maybe Nintendo will unveil an online Nintendo Power at some point down the road?
