The Last Guardian Still Coming To PS3 – Technical Issues Slow Progress

Sony wants to assure fans that The Last Guardian is still coming, though work on it is excruciatingly slow. It looks like technical issues are abundant with the development process and they are plaguing the speed at which developers can get the ball rolling.

Sony Worldwide Studios’ Shuhei Yoshida spoke with Eurogamer today and explained what’s happening with the game’s development and gave some insight to some of the issues that are causing trouble.

“The team is still working on [the game] very hard, there are certain technical issues they’ve been working on. That’s the period of time when the game, looking from the outside, doesn’t seem to be making much progress. But internally there is a lot of work going into creating the title.

We had the game playable. At one point we felt that it would be produced for a certain time period. That was the time we prematurely talked about the launch window. But it turned out the technical issues are much harder to solve. So the engineering team had to go back and re-do some of the work they had done.”

The Last Guardian was officially announced back in 2009. Since that time we’ve been getting less and less news about what’s exactly going on with the game. It missed the Tokyo Game Show in 2011, which had many fans disappointed. There were rumors sprouting about the game supposedly being abandoned, but they were squashed quickly. Hopefully with this news coming about the game we can expect to see it on the PS3 before too long.
