Windows GM Lets Slip Existance Of Next Xbox, Microsoft Denies [Rumor]

For a good, long while now we’ve been hearing rumors of the next Xbox, known internally as  ‘Codename Durango’, supposedly. From the fact that it’ll supposedly use some sort of technology to prevent playing used games, to the more mundane details that it’ll have a Blu-Ray player built in, we already have a pretty good idea of what the console is going to be capable of doing. The only thing left to do at this point for Microsoft is to officially announce that they’re developing this system in the first place!

That almost happened last weekend. Brian Hall, the General Manager for Windows, may have accidentally officially revealed the existence of the next Xbox in an interview last week with The Verge. In the interview, he leaked that the new Xbox will be part of a “new wave of products” that will be coming out with Windows 8.

However, Microsoft was quick to say that Hall wasn’t talking about a new console, but rather how Microsoft has found how to “extend the console lifecycle by introducing controller-free experiences with Kinect” among other things. So, I have to ask: are you really fooling anybody, Microsoft? Why not announce that you are creating a brand new console? Is it so shoddy at this point that you’re afraid it might break down in the middle of a live demo? It just doesn’t really make much sense to me that Microsoft is keeping everybody in the dark so much when it comes to this.
