Black Mesa Arrives September 14th

Making HD remakes of games seems to be the hot new thing for publishers. It really makes sense, as it doesn’t cost nearly as much to update the graphics as it does to completely design and create a brand new game. Gamers are happy because they’re getting the chance to relive some of their favorite games in HD, or experience older games for the first time with modern graphics. Obviously, not every game is going to get that treatment, which is why modders take things into their own hands.

Black Mesa has been in development for a long time, with followers believing that it would never see the light of day. Well Half-Life fans, rejoice! The team has announced that Black Mesa will be launching September 14th.

This free mod takes the original Half-Life, and put it into the Source engine. This essentially means that you’ll get the look and feel of the second game, in the first. Sadly, the project isn’t 100% complete. However, you’ll be able to play all the way up to the Lamba Core, which the project leader says is “a great way to provide a complete-feeling 8-10 hour experience with a solid ending, make our fans happy and help us make the best overall game possible.”
