Ubisoft Finally Giving Up On Intrusive DRM

I’m not going to lie, when I was listening to Ubisoft’s big E3 press conference I couldn’t help but be impressed by them. They seemed to be having such a good time in making and playing all of those different games, and I really wanted to play them. The only thing that’s been keeping me from playing them have been their ridiculous DRM, with its always-on requirements and the limited number of installations. Looks like that’s all about to change.

In an interview with Rock-Paper-Shotgun, Ubisoft revealed that they are seriously curtailing its DRM, and have been doing so for awhile now. Apparently, according to Ubisoft the always-on requirement hasn’t been in place for some time, and you no longer have a limit on how many times you install a game. To say that these changes are welcome by gamers is a bit of an understatement.

RPS has a full interview about what Ubisoft is doing, and I’ll admit it seems like Ubisoft isn’t too keen about making this move. They never admit in the interview about how intrusive it was, and that the reason why they’ve changed their DRM policies is because of the feedback by gamers. In the end, though, it doesn’t matter how they feel about scrapping the DRM, just as long as they do it, am I right?
