EA Claims Mirror’s Edge 2 Currently In Production At DICE

One of my favorite golden games that’s slipped under the radar is Mirror’s Edge. This game takes the idea of an FPS and combines its mechanics with parkour in a way that’s very unique. The game is something I would consider as a cult title, as it’s got somewhat of a dedicated fan base, but it’s not huge on the surface in the gaming world. A lot of fans have been itching for more in the Mirror’s Edge universe, and according to former EA boss a sequel is currently in production.

Ben Cousins, who recently served as the General Manager of EA Easy, made the announcement while responding to comments made by the company’s Vice President Patrick Soderlund. Soderlund issued a statement via Twitter in which he says that the company doesn’t want “DICE to become a Battlefield factory.” That makes sense, seeing as how there are already two companies who are landlocked into that sort of thing – Treyarch and Infinity Ward.

Cousins made the statement, “It is general knowledge in the Stockholm dev scene that Mirror’s Edge 2 is in production at DICE.”

Though neither DICE nor EA have commented to confirm the statement, they’ve both spoken out about aspects of the game possibly receiving a sequel. EA boss Frank Gibeau even said that ideas for the game were being stormed up and hammered out, and that he’d be doing what’s necessary to see the game run on the Frostbite 2 engine.

For now I’m going to take this little piece of information in stride with hopes that EA will mention more about this soon. I love Mirror’s Edge and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the game in the future. I can’t get enough of jumping from building to building 20+ stories in the air.
