PlayStation: The Official Magazine Shutting Down

Earlier this year it was announced that Nintendo Power would be shut down after the holiday season. Now it looks like the same thing is happening to Sony’s magazine as well. It was announced yesterday by Future US that PlayStation: The Official Magazine will go out of circulation at the end of the year.

According to Kotaku the last issue will be the 2012 Holiday issue. That’ll give the few people who still read the magazine a chance to see the hype on the latest PS3 or PS Vita games before they finalize their Christmas lists. After that, however, they won’t have that luxury of having a magazine delivered straight to their door any more.

Of course, it’s easy to see why gaming magazines are going out style. After all, with the plethora of trailers for AAA games and whatnot out there on the internet for free, why would anybody want to spend 10 bucks on a magazine with a few paragraphs and still shots, where half the magazine is filled with ads anyway? Future US seems to have gotten that memo, because not only were they the publishers for P:TOM, but Nintendo Power as well.
