343 Mentions That Next Halo Is Already In Development

Frank O’Connor, the development director for the new take on the Halo franchise, has made mention that the next Halo game is already in development at 343 Industries. The studio is working at gathering their teams together to begin work on the next major Halo project. This hasn’t been detailed too much yet, but the team will be working on “a spectrum of Halo support through the next year and beyond.”

Specifically O’Connor mentioned that “a lot of people at 343 are already prototyping ideas and software and art for future Halo products. I can’t say more than that, but work on the game started before we actually launched Halo 4 and continues apace as we cycle staff through the team’s vacation breaks. We’re excited about the next game.”

There wasn’t a mention that the next game would specifically be Halo 5, but according to what the studio has already mentioned we know that Halo 4 is the first title in a second coming trilogy. The development staff at 343 are hard at work on the content for the post launch of the game, and Spartan Ops is a main focus. The second season of Spartan Ops remains up in the air, and the team is waiting to see how the first season goes before deciding to move forward.

In closing, O’Connor mentioned, “Spartan Ops season 2 is yet to be decided, we’re looking at how the first season does. We got such great responses from Forward Unto Dawn and Spartan Ops that we’re pretty happy with it and we’re learning a lot of really interesting stuff for the future.” I know I’m looking forward to seeing where 343 takes the storyline with the new trilogy. They certainly left me hanging with this one.
