Halo 4 Players Banned For Downloading Crimson Map Pack

If you follow the rules and don’t cheat, you shouldn’t ever fear the mighty banhammer, right? It’s a simple path of logic that will generally keep you out of trouble when gaming. But sometimes, you’ll find yourself getting banned for following directions. At least that’s what some Halo 4 players are saying.

There were some issues last week that caused some Halo 4 Limited Edition owners to not be able to download the latest map pack for free, like they were supposed to. Someone found a workaround for this, that allowed you to download it for free, as promised. What’s more, it was discovered that this workaround allowed anyone to get the map pack, without being charged. Microsoft even confirmed that they were offering complimentary access to the Crimson Map Pack for a limited time.

So what does all of this have to do with the banhammer? Well, according to a very large thread (currently over 100 pages), players have been banned from certain parts of Halo 4 online. The reason for the ban appears to be specifically because the players had downloaded the Crimson Map Pack, just as Microsoft suggested.

Thankfully, someone from 343 has responded that they are investigating the issue, and will hopefully have a resolution sometime later today. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
