Diablo III’s Director Steps Down

Stepping down and letting somebody else take over a project is never an easy thing. It’s even harder if you’ve been on the project for over 7 years. pouring your life into the game. That’s exactly what happened yesterday as Jay Wilson decided to step down as director of Diablo III, and I’m sure he’ll be the first to tell you just how hard it was to come to that decision.

Despite the fact that the game has received some backlash from different technical errors and missing features, that doesn’t appear to be the reason why he’s stepping down from the position. Instead, according to a post he made on the Battle.net forums he said that “while it’s been one of the most challenging and rewarding periods of my life, I’ve reached a point creatively where I’m looking forward to working on something new.” In other words, he’s bored, and luckily for him Blizzard has decided to let him continue to work in the company, and transfer him elsewhere.

So what’s going to happen now? At this point, not a whole lot. Wilson will still be working on the project for the next few weeks as he starts the transitioning process to his new project. At this point it’s unknown as to who is going to replace him, but according to Wilson it’s possible that Blizzard may even look outside of the company in order to hear “what kind of fresh ideas they can bring to the table.”
