EA Reveals Choices Of Free Games To SimCity Players

The release of SimCity was quite a bit of a failure, wasn’t it? After the servers all crashed on day one, the news just got worse and worse, from the reveal that the always-on DRM isn’t exactly necessary, to the fact that the company has been censoring instances of the customer care number. The fact is, the company has been screwing up, but they’re hoping to fix it by offering a free game.

If you register a copy of SimCity through Origin by March 25th you’ll be able to get one of eight games for free. The games are: Battlefield 3, Bejeweled 3, Dead Space 3, Mass Effect 3, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, Need For Speed: Most Wanted, Plants vs. Zombies, and with perhaps a twinge of irony, SimCity 4: Deluxe Edition. Underage users, however,  will not be able to actually make a choice. Instead, they’ll automatically get SimCity 4 and Bejeweled 3 added to their account instead.

Users eligible for the free game will have to claim it by March 30th. With that being said, I have to wonder if this will actually help EA regain some of the customers they’ve lost over this. Overall, I’d have to guess that it probably won’t make much of a difference, but if they want to give me a free game, by all means I’ll let them.
