Ouya’s App Store Now Open For Developers

The Ouya is a console unlike any one that’s come out before. Unlike most consoles that are created by a giant company with heavily restricted guidelines that the developers must follow, the Ouya instead was designed to be as open as possible for anybody and everybody to develop and play. It’s really quite amazing, if you sit down and think about it.

Although the Ouya won’t be shipped to the Kickstarter backers for another 3 weeks, you’ll be glad to know that there will be games available for download as soon as you get your console. Yesterday the Ouya team announced that they are now accepting submissions of games. As long as they get those submissions in and approved by the time the console launches on the 28th of March, that game will be available for purchase on the store on day one.

And not only that, but Ouya will be making a series of documentaries. Basically, if your game is published by the 28th you’ll be eligible for this promotion where the top 3 games (as determined by total gamer time spent playing in the first 6 weeks) will have a documentary made about the publisher. The documentaries are going to be used for marketing purposes for the console, and should get the developers names out there for the public. It seems like a pretty cool idea to me!
