One of the bigger things to come out of the Sony press conference Monday night (besides the whole “no DRM” thing) was Square Enix’s big announcements, Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3. After all, fans of KH have been waiting for years for a true, proper sequel to the game. And that’s not to say that FF fans weren’t waiting around either, wishing for a true new Final Fantasy that wasn’t XIII or XIV.
Undoubtedly some Xbox fans were a bit nervous to see these games show up on Sony’s conference. After all, both games looked promising, and there are undoubtedly some KH fans who also happen to love Halo. Luckily for them Square Enix announced at E3 that Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3 will be coming to the Xbox One as well.
If you watched the above video you’ll notice something different about this Final Fantasy: it’s not turn-based. Instead, it’s using a completely real-time combat system that features a lot of leaping through the air, oversized swords, and plenty of magic. One of the other things I noticed is that it seems a lot more open ended, and I hope that’s indicative to the game in general. After all, one of my biggest gripes with FFXIII is the fact that there was no real exploration, as you were stuck on a narrow path with no method of deviation available. Here’s hoping XV ends up rocking my socks off!
