No Cross-Platform Play For Wii U, 3DS Smash Bros [E3 2013]

One of the most anticipated games for the Wii U and the 3DS is the new Super Smash Bros game. It’s pretty easy to see why, because ever since its first release on the N64 these games have just been plain fun! And hey, with the game being on the Wii U and the 3DS, you’d think Nintendo would have some sort of cross-platform play, like what Sony did with All Stars, right?

Unfortunately, that is not the case. According to director of Sora Ltd. Masahiro Sakurai there will be no such cross-platform play because of the fact that each game has completely different stages. That’s not to say, however, that the games won’t be able to interact at all.

Instead, according to Mr. Sakurai you’ll be able take characters you’ve customized on the 3DS version and transfer them to the Wii U, and I assume vice versa. At this point Nintendo hasn’t exactly said what that customization entails, except that it won’t be something as simple as different costumes. If I had to guess, though, I’d say that it might let you tweak stats, or something along those lines. I suppose, though, that we’ll find out at some point whenever we get closer to Super Smash Bros launch date.
