One of the big trends to come out over the last few years are yearly iterations of games. It used to be that you might see a sequel for a game every 2 or 3 years, but anymore you’ll see a new sequel or a other spin-off every year, to the point where its become comical.Call of Duty is perhaps the most infamous at this, butAssassin’s Creed is just as bad anymore.
And why not? For companies like Ubisoft, it’s a great system as people buy the games year-after-year, all without the need for any radical invention. But while Ubisoft does plan on milking the AC cow for awhile longer, they’re not doing it blindly. They do indeed have a rough plan for ending the series, whenever that may be.
According to game director Ashraf Ismail, there is an overall arc, and every title has its place in that arc. However, due to the fact that the game is a yearly title, they’ve given themselves room in order to stuff more into that arc if need be. I imagine, however, that we won’t see the end until the Assassin’s Creed games quit making a killing.
