PSA: Don’t Install Play Disc For GTA V On Xbox 360!

One of the biggest games of the year, Grand Theft Auto V, has just been released! It’s certainly one of the most ambitious GTA‘s yet, as it requires an 8 GB installation of the game in order to even play it on your PS3 or Xbox 360. If you’re thinking about installing both discs onto the hard drive of the Xbox 360 version, though, don’t.

Rockstar has recommended that players don’t install the Play disc of GTA V onto the hard drive. It’s not going to break the game if you install the Play disc onto the hard drive, but it is going to cause some problems. The main issue is that objects will start “popping in” as they’re not being loaded fast enough into memory. You can see the effect in this video down below:

The reason why this is an issue is actually pretty simple. By utilizing both the hard drive and the disc drive at the same time the game is able to load those different objects and textures at a much faster rate since it’s using 2 different sources for the game, instead of throwing all the information through the hard drive’s lanes. Besides, the mandatory installation is already 8 GBs! Why would you want to use up another 8 GBs on your hard drive?
