Well, everybody’s worst dreams came true. After some troubling XML code was revealed earlier this week, Rockstar confirmed that GTA V‘s online portion, known as GTA Online, will have some microtransactions in the game. The microtransactions will be around only for you to buy in-game money, and can be accessed via the in-game store.
Rockstar has gone ahead and said though that nothing is being hidden behind a paywall. According to them, “You don’t have to spend real money to attain the cars, guns, clothes, flash and style of a high-roller in Los Santos, but can if you wish to get them a little quicker.” What’s more, Rockstar has also said that gamers will generally be able to earn money more quickly online than in the story mode, and that money can be transferred from one mode to another.
While microtransactions can suck, you have to give Rockstar credit for this next bit of news. They announced that the game will be getting some free Online content, including the Content Creator, the Beach Bum Pack, Capture the Flag, and Heists. You have to admit, that’s quite a bit better than what Activision or EA does with games like Call of Duty or Battlefield.
