With the PS4 just one day away from being in the public’s hands it’s pretty easy to tell that folks are excited. Gamers are looking forward to see just what the system is capable of and what it will be capable of doing. Sony is also excited to see just what the PS4 is capable of as well, though not from a hardware or gaming standpoint but rather from a sales standpoint.
It’s being estimated that the PS4 will sell over 3 million units by the end of the year. That number comes from Colin Sebastian, an analyst with Robert W. Baird & Co., who has also suggested that the Xbox One will see some similar numbers. Of course, that 3 million number is dependent on if supply can keep up with demand, and it appears that there is indeed a great demand for the console.
If Sony and Microsoft can come up with 3 million each by the end of the year then it’s going to be the start of a very long year for Nintendo. After all, their Wii U console currently has about 4 million sold in the year it’s been out, and if those numbers don’t improve by March then it wouldn’t be a stretch to see the PS4 and Xbox One pass up the Wii U in numbers and never look back. After all, Andrew House of Sony has suggested that Sony will sell 5 million PS4’s by that date!
