In years and generations past you can usually identify one console as having “won” that generation. Between the Genesis and the SNES, and everything else in between, the SNES was the ultimate victor. The PlayStation beat out the N64 and the Saturn the next generation, and between the PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox Sony took the crown again with the PS2. This past generation of consoles however was a bit murky, with the Wii selling the most units, but the Xbox 360 and PS3 both sold more games and were neck-in-neck with each other. All in all, this past generation could be considered a tie.
So far it looks like it might be the PS4’s race to win, but some sales reports from Microsoft show that it’s actually a pretty even race right now. They’ve revealed that so far over 2 million Xbox One’s have been sold worldwide. Compared to the 2.1 million Ps4s sold, it’s practically an even race right now.
All in all, whether you’re an Xbox One fan or a PS4 fan you have to admit that it’s good to see the two consoles compete so well against each other. The more consoles that make it into homes there are, the more likely that we’ll move on from cross-platform games with the PS3 and Xbox 360. Now, if only Nintendo can sell some Wii U consoles, then maybe we’ll have a bonafide three horse race!
