Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Memory Glitch Makes The Game Unplayable

Own a PS3? Think you’re going to be playing Skyrim upwards of 100 hours? Think again…for now. PurpleHaze over at the Elder Scrolls forum posted a thread stating that he has run into a major error. Once his game save size reached 5.3mb he started to notice some lag. “After my gamesave reached 5.3mb the game started to lag and go really unstable. Such as framerate issues, poor rendering, shoddy loading and non interactions fro finishing quests/cutting wood etc,” PurpleHaze said. He later posted this:

Well i can’t even do any quests at all now nothing.

The menus just stick on the initial text and won’t tick over to the objective.

A quest example of opening the dark brotherhood door just keeps repeating the same “welcome home” message and unable to continue.
Trying to buy stuff doesn’t work.
Can’t train any skills via npcs
Taking quests from ANY npc doesn’t work because the objective never goes forward.
can’t sell items
can’t cut wood
The guards if you steal just give loads of dialogue but thats it, no fines, no jail.. they just stand there giving me the same information about how i got caught.
created a dagger for the blacksmith, used grindwheel, give him the dagger, he stands there asking me to “create a dagger” with an arrow over his head still.. even though i already did it.
can’t buy things off him either.

can’t do anything!!!

Went back to the companions to do the initiation – hehe.. the guy gets beat and keeps saying “is that all you got” and i can’t complet that part either.
Some npcs now say “this person is busy” even tough i am supposed to be getting quests off them.

massive lags and stuttering, freezing and well i quit and i’ll wait for a patch.. so see u at xmas.

The save size follows the trend of Oblivion and Fallout 3. Both of those games had lag problems once the save file size reached a certain amount of megabytes. Reading through the other posts on the forum, most people are around 3mb so they aren’t yet experiencing the lag but they are very close and very worried.

As far as I know Bethesda hasn’t commented on this and I’m not sure how they would fix this. Fallout 3 and Oblivion never got a fix so they don’t have the experience of fixing those under their belt. This could be a huge problem and a very hard glitch to engineer a fix for.  You can find a video of the glitch below.
