Valve has announced that DotA 2 will release with both LAN and mod support. The company’s Market Director, Erik Johnson, let this be known himself. This means that the game will already be set for the PC community the moment it hits.
Speaking of the game, Johnson said, “There are some systems that LAN mode requires that we haven’t finished yet, mainly because we’ve been focused on matchmaking. We know how important this feature is for the community.” This opens the door for bigger and much more professional competition with the game. About the mods for the game he stated, “We have a long history supporting the mod community around our own games, so we’d like to continue that with DotA 2.”
Valve is really happy to see players that are excited about the game, and more so that players are still playing the Warcraft 3 DotA even today. Johnson commented that the development team behind the game are also fans, and it’s important for them to learn what players think while playing the game. It looks like Valve is really putting a lot of work into bringing players what they want, and so far they haven’t let us down.
