277 GAME Stores Closed

In a move that wasn’t unexpected, but no less shocking, 277 GAME and Gamerstation locations have shut down in the UK. With the store closings, 2,104 people have lost their jobs. All of this is happening as GAME has officially gone into administration and the firm responsible for stemming the blood loss, PricewarerhouseCoopers, decided that this was the best first step.

Mike Jervis, a joint administrator at PwC has this to say: “Our priority is to continue trading the business as normal while we continue to pursue a sale. The recent job losses are regrettable but will place the company in a stronger position while we explore opportunities to conclude a sale. My team and I will be doing all we can to help the affected employees at this difficult time.”

It’s always bad to hear about so many people losing their jobs, especially with this global recession going on. I can only hope that the employees affected by the closing will be able to get on their feet soon enough. For right not, the remaining 333 stores and 2,814 employees will remain open for GAME, but it makes you wonder for how long. I know if I were working for GAME at this moment, I’d be out looking for another job, since the company seems to be living on a day by day basis.
