Diablo III Real Money Auction House Up And Running!

Blizzard just announced on their official twitter that the real money auction house is now available! The feature was scheduled to go live about a week after Diablo III was released. However, due to issues involving lag, overworked servers, and claims of account hacking, Blizzard decided to take their sweet time in making sure that the real money auction house was unexploited.

One of the steps implemented by Blizzard is that to add money to your Battle.net Balance you’ll need an authenticator attached to your account. Luckily, Blizzard has a mobile authenticator available for free to anybody, and even the keychain authenticator is an inexpensive $6.50. Once attached, the authenticator adds another layer of security to your account, as it generates a one-time-use passcode each time you log in to your account.

The real money auction house has always been a bit of a controversial issue, due in part to the fact that Blizzard takes a cut out of each transaction that somebody does on the auction house. However, the fact remains that for years people have been purchasing virtual items with real money, and many times these purchases have been on shady websites that rip people off as much as serve them. Blizzard is providing a safe, (hopefully) reliable service where if somebody wants to spend their money to get that sword they want, then they can do it. Hopefully with this real money auction house out in the real world now maybe we’ll see the end of gold farmers spamming the chats looking for victims?
