As of December 7th, the world of Azeroth as we know it will change forever. Players and fans of the game, however, may just want to jop back into the World of Warcraft before the seismic day, when things will be insane, as stated by Lead World Designer Alex Afrasiabi.
“We’re literally waiting for that time when we flip the switch and BAM, the world is sundered,” said Afrasiabi this weekend at BlizzCon. He was asked if the team was ready for the coming Cataclysm. Final stages of the beta testing are being polished out as we speak.
Earlier this month Blizzard released World of Warcraaft Patch 4.0.1, which is a preparatory update for Cataclysm. the patch will introduce some major changes before the expansion hits, which will give players tome to migrate over to the new system.
The patch is also rocking the world of Azeroth as we know it, in preparation for Deathwing’s revenge.
“Right now on live servers we have world events leading off. Initially there are rumblings, with the earth shaking and quaking, but it’s light,” Afrasiabi states. “It steadily ramps up, and the craziness happens.”
What kinds of craziness will we see you ask? As Afrasiabi explains, “The cities start getting invaded by the elementals, and Twilight’s Hammer comes out. The world’s leaders get together, so you do actually participate in that.”
If you’ve been playing for a while, you will know that Blizzard is famous for letting out a set of special one-time-only events that lead up to major patches and expansions. Cataclysm will fall in line, and operate no different. It’s almost definite that players who have lapsed will be returning to Azeroth to check out what changes have been made, after remaining the same for almost six years.
Like usual, we can expect Blizzard to come back on the final day before launch with the latest news and changes to the World of Warcraft as we know it.
Blizzard, you shrews you.
