Square Enix offered free online play through the month of April for Final Fantasy XI and XIV when they restarted the MMO servers after the Tohoku earthquake. It still seems, though, that Square has been offering free play for Final Fantasy XIV since the game launched – through its free trial period which has been extended time and time again.
Naoki Yoshida, Producer for the game, was quoted telling Gamasutra that the end of the free trial period is “still out in the open.” The team is supposed to be accepting payments again once a solid plan for overhauling and improving the game is in place. Yoshida feels that without that plan, he, as a gamer, “wouldn’t feel good about asking the player to pay money.”
I am sure the fans gladly accept the free trial extension, am I right?
