Ripping Xbox 360 Games Doesn’t Affect Load Times On Newer Titles

Xbox 360 Hard Drive 120GB

We’ve mentioned the Fall Dashboard Update for the 360 and how it will allow you to rip games to your console’s hard drive to reduce load times. Microsoft clarified once to let us know that the feature will work on all games released in the past, as well as any that come out in the future. Well today Microsoft has again clarified on the benefits of this option.

Apparently you’re not going to see much of a difference between load times on newer titles if you rip them to your hard drive. Microsoft claims that “Recent games are already optimized; there the gain is relatively small.” They mentioned that early titles such as Project Gotham Racing 3 will benefit the most.

This leads one to ponder if Microsoft will actually tell us which games are optimized and which aren’t. Somehow I get the feeling that they aren’t going to offer up the info freely, since they want you to fork over extra cash for their new, larger hard drives.
