Upgrade Your PS3 With A SSD Drive

So you’ve spent $400 or more on your precious PS3, and you’ve got yourself quite the powerful machine. But if you’ve still got a wad of money burning a hole in your pocket, and want to show up your friends, here’s a great way to do it.  First, throw down around $700 and get yourself a nice 80GB SSD drive (you could get a smaller one, but that’s just crazy talk), then install it in your PS3. The results will blow your mind.

Actually that last statement was a complete fabrication, it’s actually not all that exciting. First, it’s not really going to cut down on those install times from Blu-ray discs, mostly because the bottleneck is the Blu-ray drive, not your hard drive. Game start times see a decent improvement, averaging in the 30% range. Load times are improved by between 30%-40% which is also pretty nice.

I can’t tell you how to spend your money, but honestly, those 4 extra seconds waiting on a load screen really aren’t worth the investment. But if you’ve got the scratch lying around, and want to be the envy of your friends, then go for it.
