Team Ninja Reveals Ninja Gaiden 3, Ni-Oh

Yosuke Hayashi, Team Ninja’s fearless leader, announced at an event in Tokyo the next major projects coming from the developer. These new projects include a new Ninja Gaiden for consoles as well as a revival of an old title called Ni-Oh.

Hayashi explained that the team responsible for the Dead or Alive series as well as the Ninja Gaiden series is furiously at work on the follow-up title to Ninja Gaiden II. He also showed off some concept art of what is to become Ninja Gaiden 3. The art seemed to be a close-up shot of Ryu Hayabusa, immensely covered in blood with a blank expression in his eyes.

No platforms or release dates have been given for the third title in the Ninja Gaiden series, but Hayashi did say that we can expect the game sometime next year.

After the developer completed work on Metroid: Other M, Hayashi fed the team toward the company’s next collaboration, staying closer to home this time. Team Ninja will soon be finishing the production stages of a new title they have called Ni-Oh, which is an action game being developed by Tecmo’s corporate companion Koei.

The last we heard anything of Ni-Oh was that it was being worked on in 2005 as a PS3 exclusive title. Koei soon put production of the game on hold, however now Team Ninja is coming in and taking over. The team is switching gears on the game, taking it from a ninja-esque game to more of a samurai-based title.

Hayashi didn’t show anything relating to Ni-Oh.

Alas, this is what we have to look forward to from Team Ninja, so keep your eyes open.
