Halo Wars Fades To Black In December

Just shy of two years after its release, Halo Wars is going dark on December 15th. The leaderboards, servers, and forums will forever disappear. Of course, fans of the strategy title are not pleased.

The whole community was informed of this last Tuesday. Everyone was told that they would be “transitioning to Halo Waypoint’s forums,” which is a sweetened way of saying goodbye to the halowars.com domain and to the community because there surely won’t be an officially dedicated area over on Waypoint.

Most importantly, though, “the forums will disappear and so will online stat-tracking,” as written by the site’s mod, a complete 300 words into the announcement. “I know this will be a lot on you,” he also says. Way to put a band-aid over a broken leg. The fans are taking this to heart, and taking it hard.

Seriously, here are some comments from the site:

Game is dead. Fuck you

NO STAT TRACKING?? YOU JUST KILLED THIS GAME!! FUCK YOU!!!

They are cheap bastards! I’m buying this domain when they let it go lol

Possibly the most close-knit video game forum community is going to be tossed with a bunch of Reach junkies.

So on December 15th it is all over. In a final word from the mod on halowars.com he writes, “Enjoy the time you have here on HaloWars.com and print-screen or copy-paste any of your favorite old posts and/or game history data, since that will all be taken offline on December 15th. We won’t be carrying over accounts, posts, or anything else between the two forums.”

Isn’t that a kick to the groin?
