The ‘Cerberus Daily News Network’ Takes A Breather While On Wait For More DLC

Perhaps one of the best props in video games today is known as the ‘Cerberus Daily News Network’ which is a daily-posting feigned news network in Mass Effect 2 that can be accessed at a computer terminal at Shepard’s desk. BioWare just announced that the prop news network will be going on hiatus starting January 24th, and remain on hiatus permanently save for three weeks in 2011. An official statement from Bioware reads:

OUT-OF-GAME NOTICE: The Cerberus Daily News will begin a hiatus on January 24th, finishing its run of one full year. Daily postings will cease except for three weeks in 2011: a week of posts will precede a downloadable content release, and two more weeks will lead up to the release of Mass Effect 3. The CDN team thanks fans for their attention, comments, and feedback (both in and out of character!). We are sorry to go, but we had fun — we hope you did, too!

The Cerberus Daily News Network has had some amazing writers behind it, spawning daily posts covering everything from long-term drug affects on athletes to a family stranded in the infinite highway of space. The news network has been running, posting every day, successfully for a year now.

The three weeks that the network will be up work as such: one week will precede new DLC that is coming out for Mass Effect 2 (which is supposedly the last DLC for the game), and two weeks of posts will lead up to Mass Effect 3’s release, which is set for the end of 2011.

The only thought that populates my head about this issue is simply, ‘What about the PS3 players?” Mass Effect 2 will hit the PS3 very soon, and it seems that PS3 players will miss out on the intriguing daily posts from the Cerberus Daily News Network. What do you think readers?
