Blizzard Is Now ‘Seriously Considering’ Releasing Diablo III On Consoles

Blizzard recently had an interview with Atomic Gamer, and in that interview released some pretty hot information. Lead Designer Kevin Martens made mention that the company is “seriously considering” releasing Diablo III on consoles. The Diablo series is recognized the world over as having some of the best RPG action a game has to offer, and with successful console releases such as Torchlight, it could be very plausible for Blizzard to make this decision. After all, they have listed countless Diablo III console positions on their job boards, so this announcement isn’t as much of a surprise as some may think.

Martens mentioned that, “Everybody had a PC, even if they just use it for nothing but e-mail and web surfing. Almost everyone has one, so we do have a pretty giant install base. Diablo is one of the more natural hits for a Blizzard title to go on [consoles], so I think that’s why we are looking at it pretty seriously.”

He does have a point. Diablo has a fairly large cult following, and porting the game to console would only entice more players to join the flock. Of course, some PC gamers may get angry at the decision, saying that Blizzard would be taking away from the game. Porting the game to console would mean that it would have to take a huge downgrade in order to run on the system. However, if Blizzard can stay on top of updating, polishing, and prioritizing the PC version, some minds may be changed.

Either way, Martens did state that the company is “looking for console people right now to see if that’s feasible, but we just want to make the best Diablo PC game right now.” I think this is his way of telling us that when the game does finally release, it will be something we will all love.

What do you think?
