L.A. Noire Crashing On PS3 and Xbox 360 – Rockstar Issues Fixes

The Rockstar Social Club site has seen many posts from frustrated gamers shortly after the recent release of the investigative game, L.A. Noire. It seems that both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game have fallen victim to frequent freezing, overheating, and crashing. If you’re one of the players that is experiencing these types of issues with the game, there is some good news. Rockstar Games has issued a fix for both versions of the game.

When these issues first surfaced, Rockstar stated that the new PS3 Update 3.61 was causing them. Soon after that, Xbox 360 users spoke up about having the same issues. Rockstar has done some tinkering, and come up with a set of instructions on how to supposedly fix the problems. Here’s the word straight from the company:

Here is what to do if you are crashing or freezing in L.A. Noire:

  1. Delete your L.A. Noire Game Data (not save data) from the PS3 Game Data Utility.  If on 360, clear the 360 cache.
  2. Create a new temporary PS3 user to ensure that new save files are created.  If on 360, create an offline Silver Gamertag.
  3. Launch the game and try again.  If you are on PS3, try playing while signed out of PSN.
  4. Check your disc for scratches, dust, dirt, or other damage. Clean if necessary.
  5. Check other game discs in your PS3/360 to see if issues are occurring in other games, suggesting a potential console problem.
  6. Try your L.A. Noire disc in a different console or try a different L.A. Noire disc in your console to determine with certainty whether the issue could be with the disc or console, rather than the software.
  7. If your console is overheating, try moving it to a more ventilated area or contact Sony/Microsoft for further console troubleshooting.”

If this set of instructions should fail for any reason, there is a discussion thread here where you can submit a help request with your system specifications. Right now it looks like Sony and Rockstar are both saying that their code isn’t causing the issues, which isn’t good. This means that both companies don’t exactly know what’s up. If we see any more information on the issue, we will be sure to update here. Have any of you been having any of these issues?
