The PlayStation Blog has just announced that inFAMOUS 2 is now available via digital download from the PlayStation Network. The game will run $59.99, and those of you with a PlayStation Plus account can download and play the game as a trail for an hour, to decide if you want it or not. The trophies earned during this trial period will exist in a “ghost” form, and won’t be recognized until the full game is purchased.
While this is a pretty grand happening, it kind of offers a slap to most retailers out there. The actual game has only been out for about two weeks now, and it went straight to digital. On one hand, I can see why this happened, as many players picked up the first inFAMOUS through Sony’s “Welcome Back” program, and Sucker Punch may have just wanted to offer the second game as a download for convenience. On the other hand it goes back to that slap to retail, as it will surely drop sales for them.
That brings me to a question. This has been discussed for some time now, but I want to know: what are your feelings on games going digital? To me, if things like this happen, it makes me wonder why to even put the game in retail in the first place, save for the people who don’t have their systems connected to the net. Do you think this will happen with virtually every title, or will actual game media live on? Either way, I love the inFAMOUS series, and many players will surely find this convenient.
